Important
Coaching, not therapy.
A clear and honest statement of what Life Centered Coaching is, what it is not, and how to know which kind of work you actually need.
What Life Centered Coaching is
Life Centered Coaching is consciousness-based experiential work for personal transformation. We work with embodied experience, patterns, limiting beliefs, life-direction questions, creative blocks, confidence, self-trust, and the felt sense of what a freer life would look like. The work is informed by the Life Centered Therapy method developed by Andrew Hahn, PsyD and Joan Beckett, LMHC, and described in The One-Hour Miracle. Every coach on our team is trained in the method.
What Life Centered Coaching is not
Life Centered Coaching is not psychotherapy, mental health treatment, medical care, or any form of clinical service. Specifically:
- We do not diagnose mental health conditions.
- We do not treat mental health disorders, including but not limited to depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, bipolar, schizophrenia, eating disorders, or substance use disorders.
- We do not provide crisis intervention or emergency mental health services.
- We do not maintain clinical records, develop treatment plans, or render any service that requires a mental health license.
- Coaching sessions are not covered by health insurance and are not eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement.
Coaching is not a substitute for licensed mental health care. Each client is responsible for obtaining appropriate clinical care from a licensed provider when needed.
When coaching is the right fit
Life Centered Coaching is well-suited for high-functioning individuals working on:
- Personal growth and self-actualization
- Limiting beliefs about what is possible or attainable
- Confidence, self-trust, and risk-taking
- Career, work, and creative blocks; transitions and direction
- Patterns in relationships and communication
- Work-life balance and the felt sense of integration
- Meaning, purpose, and the experience of being more fully alive
When coaching is not the right fit
Coaching is not appropriate, and we will refer you to licensed care, if you are:
- In an active mental health crisis or experiencing suicidal ideation
- Actively managing symptoms of a diagnosed mental health condition that require clinical care
- Seeking diagnosis, treatment, or insurance-covered mental health services
- Currently experiencing severe substance use, dissociation, hallucinations, or other symptoms that require clinical assessment
If any of the above apply, we encourage you to work with a licensed mental health professional. We can help refer you to a Life Centered Therapy practitioner where one is available in your state.
Two distinct services from the same institute
Life Centered Coaching and Life Centered Therapy operate as two distinct services within the same institute:
- Life Centered Therapy is licensed psychotherapy, available where our clinicians are licensed to practice. It treats mental health conditions and operates under all applicable state licensure laws.
- Life Centered Coaching is consciousness-based experiential work for personal transformation, available nationally. It does not treat mental health conditions and is not bound by state mental health licensure.
These services are offered separately and do not overlap. A coaching client who later requires clinical care will be referred out, and a therapy client cannot transition into coaching with the same provider as a way of continuing across state lines.
